International and Local Liaison

The non-governmental sector and women’s groups in Hong Kong play an important role in empowering women and providing support services to needy women. The Women’s Commission seeks to establish and sustain partnership with these organisations through various activities, including visits to various women’s organisations and service agencies, discussion forums, conferences, seminars and exhibitions, etc., thereby creating synergy with them.

The Women’s Commission always attaches importance to building partnerships with District Councils. The Commission has set up a Gender Focal Point network covering all 18 District Councils in 2008 to enhance communication and cooperation between District Councils and the Commission, and to help raise the awareness and understanding of District Council Members on gender issues.

The Women’s Commission also maintains close networks with relevant bodies in the Mainland, as well as those on the regional and international levels. Commission members regularly participate in relevant regional and international conferences, which provide valuable opportunities for dialogue with overseas experts and bring outside perspectives to the Commission’s work.
